Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System

This program is the basic building block for any health and safety professional, and is a compulsory program for all workers in the Province of Ontario. WHMIS acquaints the worker with some of the common hazards faced in the everyday workplace, and equips them with the right to know what those hazards are, and the employer’s duties in protecting them.

Confined Space Entry

This training is in high demand in construction, industry, and maintenance workplaces. When the Ministry of Labour designates an area as a “Confined Space” under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, special precautions must be taken and only those workers who have received the specialized training can engage in this work. The Labourers’ Union is dedicated to reducing workplace injury and fatalities; through training we are reaching this goal, especially in Confined Space Entry.

Hazardous Waste Worker

As one of the most physically demanding programs we offer, this intensive 80 hour hands-on approach can lead to a rewarding career in a growing industry. This program is only for those participants who meet particular fitness standards prior to enrolment. This program is so physically demanding that most participants lost an average of ten pounds by graduation. With the environmental disasters we hear of in the media, and the following cleanup which catches everyone’s attention, this program could lead you to one of these highly public and environmentally sensitive sites.

Asbestos & Lead Abatement Worker

An intricate part of the environmental worker certification, this program deals with the removal of hazards in a controlled atmosphere, as the safety precautions for this work are substantial. Only those workers who have attained a high degree of training are employed in this demanding and rewarding field.

Fall Arrest

The Ministry of Labour has issued a no tolerance policy in the area of Fall Protection Training, and the use of Fall Arrest equipment and systems. The fall arrest training program is fully compliant with the government regulations which pertain to this area. In order to ensure competency among our graduates, an intensive hands-on portion is incorporated into this program.

First Aid & Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

At the training centre we offer several levels of First Aid Training from Basic Rescuer to full Standard Level and on rare occasions even Emergency Childbirth. The supporting agencies have predetermined the expiration dates for each of these courses and it is of great importance to maintain current certification.
