On Tuesday February 15th, 2011 LIUNA Local 837 was presented with a 2010 Heritage Property Recognition award by the City of Hamilton’s Municipal Heritage Committee for our work in restoring the Lister Block. The presentation took place at Council Chambers in Hamilton City Hall. The award, presented by Hamilton Mayor Bob Bratina and Art French, Chair of the Hamilton Municipal Heritage Committee, was accepted by LIUNA Local 837 Secretary-Treasurer Riccardo Persi. The Lister Block is an integral symbol of renewed development and prosperity for Hamilton’s Downtown Core, and is viewed as a catalyst for growth, particularly on the city block bounded by James North, King William, Hughson North and Rebecca Streets and more importantly is a catalyst for the renewal of King William from James to Ferguson. LIUNA was recognized for “demonstrating outstanding contributions to the conservation, restoration, and preservation of Hamilton’s built heritage.” We have been recognized for full restoring the Renaissance Revival style of the Lister Block both internally and externally. We are proud of our accomplishments with respect to the Lister project and we look forward to the completion of the project this summer.
